Desert Survival Kit

Since we live in the desert we need to have the essential survival kit prepared in case a catastrophic event takes place suddenly. I have taken many desert survival courses and this list is the top 20 items that are always suggested. I highly recommend everyone taking some sort of course for your specific geographic location, just check with your nearest college campus and they should have information regarding these classes. Some of these items have multiple purposes such as the plastic bags while others are for conveniences such as the toilet paper and toothbrush.

1)      Have a camelback full with water
2)      Water purification tablets-Can be used to purify stagnant water
3)      Aluminum foil-can be used for food storage as well as a signaling device
4)      Pocket knife
5)      Foldable space blanket
6)      Basic first aid kit
7)      Snake bite kit
8)      25 feet of fishing line with hooks
9)      2 cans of tuna fish
10)   Magnesium flint stone
11)   Compass
12)   Poncho or large plastic bag-either one will work for a shaded waterproof structure as well as protection from the rain.
13)   Sunscreen-A high SPF is important since the desert sun can cause bad burns which if left untreated can become infected very easily.
14)   Chapstick
15)   Hand Sanitizer
16)   Bug spray
17)   Toilet paper-Can be used for its intended purpose or works as a great fire starter.
18)   Toothbrush
19)   Small mirror
20)   Several non-scented/non-flavored condoms-These are great for water storage since they are durable and take up very little space.

WILL A CATASTROPHIC EVENT END LIFE AS WE KNOW IT IN THE NEAR FUTURE???
